Qingming Festival, also known in English as Tomb Sweeping Day (sometimes referred to as the Memorial Day of
Chinese Soldiers and Soldiers, Ancestors' Day, Tomb Sweeping Day or Tomb Sweeping Day), is a traditional festival
celebrated by Chinese in Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, Cambodia, Indonesia,
the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. As a celebration of spring, it falls on the first day of the fifth solar term (also
known as Qingming) in the traditional Chinese lunar calendar. This makes it the 15th day after the spring equinox,
which is April 4th, 5th, or 6th of a certain year. During the Qingming Festival, Chinese families will go to their
ancestors' graves to sweep, clean their graves, and offer sacrifices to their ancestors. [9] The food provided usually includes
traditional dishes and incense and fragrant paper. This festival acknowledges the traditional reverence for ancestors in Chinese culture.
The origin of Qingming Festival can be traced back more than 2500 years, despite significant changes in celebration
activities. In 2008, it became a public holiday in Chinese Mainland, related to eating green dumplings made of glutinous
rice and wormwood or barley grass.
